  • Bus Driver

    JOB TITLE:  Bus Driver
    REPORTS TO:  Appropriate Transportation Supervisor
    PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned bus route.  Operate school bus that transports students and other personnel to and from schools or other designated locations.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Education / Certifications: High School Diploma or GED, Valid Texas CDL (Class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsement,) No record of DUI convictions in past 10 years.  Must be able to pass DOT mandated physical exam.  Must pass pre-duty and randomly administered drug and alcohol tests.
    • Special Knowledge/Skills:  Must be 21 years old.  Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.  Acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Education Agency and the Department of Public Safety.
    • MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:  
      1. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
      2. Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing the bus.
      3. Maintain appropriate student management and report student incidents to the appropriate supervisors.
      4. Follow assigned route and adhere to set schedules.
      5. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and submit work orders as necessary,
      6. Communicate with department personnel, school personnel and parents about student behavior while on the bus.
      7. Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
      8. Properly operate all assigned communications equipment.
      9. Report all accidents, vehicle damage and student injuries as they occur.
      10. Complete and submit all required reports and documentation.

    Essential Job Functions:
    1. Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning. 
    2. Conducts learning exercises with small groups of children.
    3. Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.
    4. Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual children.
    5. Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary.
    6. Listens to the students in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks, guiding and helping them but not teaching them.
    7. Helps maintain individual records for each child.
    8. Fosters good eating habits and table manners in children.
    9. Assists teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
    10. Assists with the supervision of children during regular play periods.
    11. Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays.
    12. Under the supervision of the teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
    13. Accompanies the student when trips to the office or school nurse are necessary.

    Position Summary: Comprehensive, rigorous and complete induction program targeted to impact both teaching quality and student learning. The program is a complete year-long induction curriculum with which novices and their mentors engage.     Reports to: Elementary Principal

    Grade Level: PK to 5th

    Responsible for instructing students in an elementary school from grades PK-5. Creates lesson plans, administers praise and constructive criticism, instructs students on subjects such as science, literature, and math, and creates a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program. 

    Primary Responsibilities:
    1. Create instructional resources for use in the classroom.
    2. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities.
    3. Create positive educational climate for students to learn in.
    4. Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
    5. Participate in ongoing training sessions.
    6.  Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
    7. Maintain grade books.
    8. Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed.
    9. Write grant proposals to gain funding for further research.
    10. Create projects designed to enhance lectures.
    11. Read and stay abreast of current topics in education.

    Position Summary: Cleaning and maintaining the entire facility using the proper chemicals, equipment and techniques. 

    Minimum Qualifications/Job Requirements:

    Essential Job Functions:
    • Locking the doors at specified times
    • Cleaning the classrooms (i.e., empty the pencil sharpeners, empty the trash, dust, replace burned out lights, clean desk/tables, clean sinks, fill dispensers if applicable, clean the chalkboard, sweep/vacuum the floor, mop, secure the windows and lock the doors). 
    • Cleaning the restrooms (i.e., fill dispensers, empty all trash, clean and disinfect sinks and fixtures., lean and disinfect stools and urinals, clean mirrors, clean and disinfect walls and stalls, check ceiling for paper towels and other objects, replace burned out lights, sweep and flood mop floors). 
    • Cleaning the gyms and locker rooms using proper procedures. 
    • Cleaning the main office and nurse’s station using proper procedures. 
    • Cleaning the cafeteria and/or kitchen using proper procedures. 
    • Cleaning the auditorium using proper procedures. 
    • Cleaning the drinking fountains and hand washing sinks. 
    • Sweep, mop and buffing the hallways using proper procedures. 
    • Assisting the Supervisor in summer clean-up and special cleaning projects as needed. 
      • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

    Job Goal
    In the absence of the regular classroom teacher to help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.

    • Reports to school office at beginning of school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials.  Follows sign out procedures as prescribed by the principal.
    • Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
    • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
    • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
    • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
    • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.  Straightens chairs, tables, clears chalkboard, etc.
    • Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
    • Indicates to students at beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school and Buncombe County Schools policies.
    • Insures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.
    • May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.
    • Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
    • Knows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems.
    • Knows school procedures and regulations. 
    • Performs other related duties as directed by principal
